Volvo FMX takes centre stage at BAUMA, Munich 17 April 2013

Volvo took the wraps of its latest FMX truck yesterday (16 April 2013) at the BAUMA 2013 construction trade fair in Munich.

The new FMX has a range of upgrades, starting with a redesigned cab interior, new air suspension system, raised ground-clearance and Volvo's Dynamic Steering, designed to improve its manoeuvrability.

At its unveiling, Claes Nilsson, president of Volvo Trucks, explained that the FMX represents a huge step forward in all the most important areas for construction.

"We have improved every detail of the truck – large and small – which are vital for ensuring the truck's robustness and handling," he said. "It is probably the best and toughest construction truck in the world."

With what Nilsson describes as a "super-robust, reinforced exterior and a more comfortable workplace and ergonomically-improved interior," the new FMX construction truck cab appears impressive.

And it's not just skin deep: the cab itself is fabricated from high-tensile steel, and Volvo says that all components in the front structure were redesigned to boost robustness and durability. Makes you wonder about the earlier model.

Production of the new Volvo FMX for European customers starts in September 2013.
