Western Commercial gets Mercedes-Benz truck and van franchise for Dundee 01 October 2012

Western Commercial, the Mercedes-Benz truck and van dealer for Scotland's central belt, has been awarded a major extension.

The manufacturer's decision to entrust its Dundee franchise to Western Commercial rewards the dealer for its performance in sales but also after sales since 2008 – on the Mercedes-Benz truck and van range but also the Fuso Canter series.

Although not previously the official Mercedes-Benz franchisee for Dundee, Western Commercial already has a presence in the city, running a vehicle maintenance unit on Riverside Drive for Brakes Group.

The Western team – including all 19 members of the former John R Weir workforce – will continue to operate from this site until a new, permanent dealership home has been acquired.

Western Commercial is also poised to open a new sales centre with van showroom and servicing facilities, including an MoT bay, on Edinburgh Road, Perth.

"The manufacturer's decision to award us its Dundee franchise represents a tremendously exciting opportunity for our business," comments Western Commercial market area director Andrew Smith.

"We now cover a huge swathe of Scotland, including its biggest and most densely populated cities, and have a truck sales franchise that extends from Ayr on the west coast to Dundee in the east."
