Alcaline raises the roof with Schmitz Cargobull curtainsiders16 July 2019

Kent-based haulier Alcaline has taken delivery of ten Schmitz Cargobull curtainsiders fitted with the manufacturer’s TrailerConnect telematics, to increase uptime and improve running costs.

The new units are also equipped with Varios Top Technology for easy adjustment of the trailer roof height, enabling Alcaline to make full use of the maximum height in every European country. Drivers can raise the roof when extra load space is required, and lower it back down when transporting more compact cargo, to boost aerodynamics and fuel efficiency.

A sliding roof means bulky payloads can be loaded or unloaded by crane through the roof, in addition to regular loading through the side curtains or rear doors.

TrailerConnect records the details of every journey, and monitors key trailer components in real time, alerting the driver to take action when necessary.

Live tracking information can also be accessed online, providing an accurate log to prove safe delivery of each payload.

TrailerConnect also alerts the operator via SMS or email if a trailer is likely to breakdown due to a brake system problem or incorrect tyre pressure and temperature – crucial for Alcaline as it transports high-value components across Europe for customers in the aerospace industry.

David Zaccheo, operations manager at Alcaline, says: “Schmitz Cargobull’s telematics system makes it easy to monitor our trailers, giving us a complete picture of the delivery chain from start to finish.”
