DAF launches four-axle CF and XF Euro 6 range27 May 2014

DAF has launched a range of Euro 6 four-axle CF and XF rigids and tractors, for special and heavy-duty applications.

The launch follows last year's release of two- and three-axle tractors and rigids, with single or double drive for its Euro 6 CF and XF models.

The four-axle vehicles also have a choice of configurations: as well as 8x4, there are also 8x2 options available.

The FAX configuration for the 8x2 rigid has two steered front axles (8 or 9 tonnes) and a rear bogie consisting of an 11-tonne driven axle and a 7.5-tonne steered trailing rear axle.

The FAX CF has a gvw of 32 tonnes and can be specified for drawbar operation up to 44 tonnes.

For the first time in the UK, the FAQ four-axle option is available, featuring the three rearmost axles mounted at the rear to form a tridem. This has proved popular on the continent for special applications because of its ability to cope with loads biased towards the rear of the vehicle, while providing maximum manoeuvrability.

The CF FAQ has a single front axle rated at either 8 or 9 tonnes. The tridem, with a steered leading rear axle, a driven rear axle and a steered trailing axle, has a combined capacity of 24 tonnes.

The XF series includes an 8x4 tractor, where the tridem features a double-drive tandem and a steered leading rear axle. With an 8- or 9-tonne front axle and an 8-tonne leading rear axle and double drive tandem with single or hub reduction axles on either steel or air suspension at the rear, the XF tractor can operate up to 150 tonnes gtw.

The CF and XF four-axle models have a 12.9-litre Paccar MX-13 engine with ratings of between 412bhp and 510bhp, and a new 10.8-litre Paccar MX-11 engine with 435bhp. The CF is also available with the MX-11 engine with a rating of 396bhp.
