DVSA launches new payment system for roadside fines04 January 2019

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is launching a new payment portal later this month for road enforcement fines.

From 29 January, the portal will replace chip and PIN payments at DVSA enforcement sites, allowing drivers to nominate someone else, such as their employer, to pay a fine.

When a driver receives a fixed penalty, they will provide a telephone number or email address. A link to the payment portal and a unique code will then be sent by text message or email.

This system means drivers will no longer need to carry credit cards or cash while driving, says DVSA, as anyone nominated by the driver will be able to pay fines from any location.

It also means fines can be paid without a member of DVSA staff needing to be present.

“This new app will allow for easier, more efficient payment of fines at the roadside, freeing up our staff to focus on the most dangerous rogue operators on Britain’s roads,” says Gordon MacDonald, head of enforcement policy for DVSA.
