DVSA opens booking for ‘priority’ vehicle test services27 April 2020

Although full-scale vehicle testing services are on hold because of COVID-19, DVSA published arrangements for commercial vehicle users to book to gain access to a limited number of ‘priority’ services being carried out before 22 June.

These are for individual vehicle approval (IVA) tests of lorries, trailers, light goods vehicles, buses and coaches, specialist vehicles (and cars).

It says: “A limited number of IVA tests are still going ahead during the coronavirus outbreak. These are being done under a priority system. If you want to be considered for a priority test, you need to send a separate application for a priority test after you have applied. If you do not want a priority test, your test will take place after 22 June 2020.”

The link to apply for a priority examination is below.

Operators who wish to book will need to specify for which type of vehicle a priority assessment is requested:

  • vehicles critical to the Coronavirus response (ambulance/other medical transport/emergency services vehicle/hearse);
  • goods vehicles being used to support the Coronavirus response (proof of loads carried required);
  • vehicles manufactured in Great Britain;
  • European approved vehicles with an expired certificate of conformity;
  • imported vehicles;
  • amateur built or rebuilt vehicles.

A limited number of theory and practical driving tests are also being conducted for learner drivers who are ‘critical workers’.
