Goodyear European tyre survey confirms value of latest ranges 15 August 2013

Commercial vehicle fleets are choosing their tyres based on fuel efficiency and mileage performance, rather than tyre application.

That's chief among the findings of a survey by Goodyear across several European countries.

Other findings include that the most important performance issue today for operators is rolling resistance, which directly influences fuel efficiency.

Of fleets interviewed, 77% classified this as very important or extremely important. Mileage was the second most important factor (76%) and wet grip came a close third (75%).

Goodyear makes the point that there is now a much greater mix of haulage types, each with somewhat different demands on tyres, but adds that increasing operational costs are the big deal – and not just fuel.

"That is why they are focusing more than ever on reducing their operational costs, including concentrating on selecting the best tyres for their business model," concludes Goodyear.

"It is no coincidence, therefore, that 70% of the fleets interviewed claim they already purchase fuel-efficient tyres or that they will start doing so in the near future [21%]."

For Goodyear, it's an affirmation of the firm's latest tyre developments – the new mileage and fuel efficient truck tyre lines, dubbed KMAX and FUELMAX respectively – due for launch next month (September 2013).
