Hyndburn to receive RCVs08 February 2024

Hyndburn Borough Council in Lancashire has awarded Specialist Fleet Services (SFS) a contract for five refuse collection vehicles (RCV) fitted with safety equipment and electric bin lifts.

The new fleet of RCVs manufactured by Dennis Eagle is due to arrive in September 2024 and include new safety technology to comply with the EU General & Pedestrian Safety Regulation ahead of new mandatory regulations coming into force in July 2024.

The council has introduced driver recognition wrist bands to prevent unauthorised vehicle usage and Live 360-degree camera systems to allow monitoring of the vehicles and crews in real-time during operations. As with the rest of the council’s fleet, the new vehicles will run on hydrotreated vegetable fuel oil and feature Terberg electric bin lifts, which are said to offer an additional 12% fuel saving.

These new upgraded vehicles give us the opportunity to further enhance the safety of the public and our crews, and bring us nearer to our target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030.”
