JG Pears has appetite for success with new Volvo FMX rigid17 March 2014

Animal feed manufacturer JG Pears has taken delivery of one of the first new series Volvo FMX rigids in the UK, bringing the total of Volvo trucks in its 33-strong fleet to 24.

The new series FMX is powered by Volvo's D13K-460, Euro 6 engine, rated at 460bhp. To provide manoeuvrability, the 6x2 gvw rigid was specified with a rear-steer system. The truck's hook-lift system bodywork is by Translift.

The Penistone, Sheffield-based company's vehicles cover high annual mileages, so fleet servicing is vital to maximise uptime. The truck was supplied with a three-year Volvo Gold contract by dealer Crossroads Truck and Bus of Rotherham, which carries out servicing and inspections at weekends for JG Pears.

"The level of Crossroads' aftermarket service was the key reason for choosing Volvo," says Andy Bostock, transport manager.

The new FMX is on double-shift operation, making deliveries between the company's factory in Penistone and sites in Newark and Market Harborough.
