Quiet please – DAF to launch the CF Silent at IAA Hanover29 August 2014

DAF has announced it will unveil its new CF Silent truck at IAA Hanover next month (25 September to 2 October).

Called the CF Silent, the new vehicle will be available from the start of 2015 as a 4x2 rigid and tractor, with three cab choices and a range of wheelbase options.

The vehicle will be equipped with a 10.8-litre Paccar MX-11 Euro 6 engine, with ratings of 290-440bhp.

The CF Silent has been designed for urban distribution during evenings and overnight.

When set to silent mode, the noise level is no more than 72 dB(A), meaning the vehicle complies with Quiet Truck certification levels for noise limits.

A 'silent' button on the dashboard activates the engine software which, in turn, limits torque and engine speed. Gears are changed at lower engine speeds to reduce noise.

Additionally, the gearbox itself is enclosed.
