Roofing contractor pitches for more payload with Volvo FE07 July 2015

Roofing contractor RS Miller has taken delivery of a Volvo FE 320, citing improved payload as a key factor in its choice.

Supplied by dealer Hartshorne Motor Services, of Kingswinford, the Brierley Hill-based operator's latest addition is a 6x2 tag-axle rigid and joins another FE acquired in 2012.

Significant business growth in recent months made the FE an attractive proposition, as chairman Bob Miller explains: "This truck will enable us to carry over 13 tonnes, which will dramatically reduce our time on the road.

"We'll be able to load the truck for multiple deliveries in the day, without it necessarily having to return to base," he adds.

"This will make a big difference to us, enhancing our efficiency and reducing fuel consumption, which was a big consideration when it came to making this investment."

The day-cabbed, three-axle FE is equipped with a 7.62m dropside body and rear-mounted PM Series-16 crane and scissor grab.

It is powered by a D8K six cylinder, 8-litre engine producing 320bhp and up to 1200 Nm of torque.

RS Miller specified the truck with a nine-speed ZTO1109 manual gearbox. It is expected to cover up to 50,000km a year and is supplied with a Volvo Blue R&M contract.
