Shell announces European FuelSave driver winner 24 June 2014

Shell has named Aad Maarleveld, from Amsterdam-based haulier Van Waveren Transport, champion of the Shell FuelSave Partner European Driver Competition 2014.

Maarleveld won the competition after fighting off stiff competition from nine other national champions from across Europe at the final in Berlin, Germany.

Michael Joichl, from defending champion Rewe International Lager und Transportgesellschaft, in Austria, came a close second.

Carsten Stenbjerg from KD Logistik APS, in Denmark, took third place.

Over 1,100 road haulage drivers from across Europe entered this year's competition, which is run by Shell in cooperation with DEKRA Academy.

The three-month competition is staged to encourage drivers to reduce fuel consumption by working with their managers to improve fuel efficient driving behaviours, following feedback from their Shell FuelSave Partner advanced fuel management telematics system.

"I'm extremely proud to be crowned champion of the Shell FuelSave Partner European Driver Competition 2014," states Maarleveld.

"The way you drive can have a big impact on how much fuel you use, so it's important to constantly seek new ways to improve your style, where possible," he continues.

"It's great to be recognised for the hard work I've done to improve my fuel efficiency. I would like to thank my manager, Wim van den Dool, for his support and coaching."
