Show orders take Optare order book past £33 million 09 November 2010

Orders worth more than £5.5 million placed at the Euro Bus Expo in Birmingham last week took Optare's order book to over £33 million, according to chief executive Jim Sumner.

Several orders were for hybrids or electric vehicles, including: five Versa diesel-electric hybrids for Johnsons Coaches of Henley-in-Arden; three EV battery-powered buses for Travel de Courcey of Coventry; and two EV battery-powered buses for Dorset County Council.

As well as 'green' buses, Optare also orders for diesel-powered vehicles. Sumner cites Warrington Borough Transport, which have not taken Optare buses for 12 years, but has now returned with an order for six Solo midibuses.

Also, Nottingham City Transport confirmed its order for 20 double-deck Omnideckers, based on Scania chassis.

"In a week that began with the handover of the first of 66 hybrids for Greater Manchester, we confirmed some very significant new orders for our green buses," says Sumner.

"We saw two of the country's leading independent operators endorse our hybrid and EV technology. On top of that we've continued to show that we can deliver the most cost-efficient vehicles in the market based on conventional diesel power," he adds.
