Smart standardises on Mercedes-Benz Citan van29 February 2016

Newport-based outsourcing company Smart Solutions, which recently took delivery of five new Mercedes-Benz Citan 109 CDI vans – reckons it will shave some £15,000 off its fuel costs annually.

Supplied by South Wales dealer Euro Commercials, the £82 million company’s Extra-long crew van variants have been assigned to its security and cleaning teams.

Operations director Steve Hancock explains that the firm previously operated a mix of vans and 4x4s.

“We were looking to achieve a degree of standardisation and approached several manufacturers, with reliability, mpg performance, servicing and image all high on our list of priorities,” states Hancock.

“Euro Commercials provided Citan and mid-size Vito demonstration units for trial, and we felt both represented excellent value for money.”

Hancock says he likes the 90bhp Citan 109 CDI, which delivers a combined cycle fuel economy figure of up 61.4 mpg.

“In terms of fuel-efficiency, the Citan represents a big improvement on our previous vehicles, particularly the 4x4s,” he comments.

Smart Solutions has taken out a four-year Complete Care contract, under which its new vans will be serviced and repaired by Euro Commercials’ technicians.
