Speed tests improves fuel economy for utilities firm 25 October 2012

Autokontrol, a manufacturer of vehicle speed control devices, says that fuel economy improvements of nearly 25% have been achieved during a trial with an unnamed utilities company.

A six-month test period saw the company's latest Rev.Control unit used on 19 vehicles, ranging from mid-sized panel vans to 3.5 tonne gvw vans and tippers, as well as 4x4 pick-up trucks.

All of these vehicles were running at maximum gross weight, with the majority also used to tow trailers.

Average fuel economy improvement across all 19 vehicles in the trial was 4.42mpg or 24.72%, with some of the 3.5 tonne vehicles showing up to 13mpg improvements.

As a result of the trial, Autokontrol says that its utilities customer has now ordered more than 300 Rev.Control units. These will be used to equip the remainder of its LCV.

"We support these trials by providing and installing a system free of charge and in major trials we will consider increasing this commitment," states Stuart Gray, Autokontrol director.
