Supplied by dealer Acorn Truck Sales, the Essex-based operator’s new additions are 7.5-tonne Eurocargos. Bodies, by GM Billings, give a tall cargo area to enable Sub Zero’s fridge-freezers – which can weigh up to 400kg and incorporate technology developed by NASA – to be transported upright.
There is also custom LED lighting in the rear of the body, for unloading operations during the hours of darkness.
Each Eurocargo 75E21 rigid has a 210bhp Euro 6 engine and benefits from Iveco’s HI-SCR technology. They also have a two-pedal EuroTronic gearbox, manufactured by ZF – with Sub Zero’s drivers describing it as “fantastic”.
Supplied on contract hire by Iveco Capital, the vehicles are specified with an array of options, including an external sun visor, headlamp washer jets, heated electric mirrors with chrome caps, fog lights and a full height cab roof spoiler.
For maximum safety, they also feature reversing buzzers, remote central locking, special strap-loading points in the bodywork to secure appliances, plus ABS, ASR, ESP and AEBS. Air-conditioning, steering-wheel mounted controls, a mobile office facility to provide document storage and a working ‘table’ in the cab, plus an air-suspended driver’s seat complete the driving experience.
Ricky Davies, Sub Zero’s operations manager, says: “There’s perhaps a slight bit of overindulgence with our trucks – but the fleet has to reflect the quality and presentation of our kitchen appliances. We ticked a lot of option boxes when we placed the order with Acorn Truck Sales, but the result is a striking Iveco fleet which reflects our brand perfectly.”
The trucks are expected to be in operation for three years, covering 80,000 miles per year.
