TNT Express goes for new Cartwright aerodynamic box vans 31 October 2013

TNT Express UK & Ireland has taken delivery of 220 box vans from Cartwright, all designed with updated aerodynamics and a lighter weight specification, as part of its fleet replacement programme.

A further 80 are due for delivery next month (November 2013) – all built on DAF chassis – and all will run from the parcel delivery giant's national network of 52 depots on its PuD (pick-up and delivery) operation.

Alistair Cochrane, managing director of TNT Express UK & Ireland, confirms that the new rigids went into production towards the end of July, and that, while they are based on Cartwright's Cheetah aerodynamic design, that has been augmented with a development of the rear roof shape, which also now aligns with the cab roof.

As for the lightweighting, he explains that Cartwright is now using more plastics, so cutting the body weight by 250kg, with an expected knock-on effect on fuel consumption.

"We continue to have an excellent ongoing relationship with Cartwright as they are able to respond to meeting our delivery time requirements," states Cochrane.

Steven Cartwright, Joint Managing Director, Cartwright said: "This has been a new build constructed to a new aerodynamic design with some important key features, including lighter materials that have reduced the weight of the box vans considerably."
