TOM Vehicle Rental rolls forward with expansion plans with SDC Trailers04 December 2015

TOM Vehicle Rental has taken delivery of 52 of a 155-trailer order from SDC Trailers, part of the rental company’s ongoing £130 million investment.

Those supplied so far include a mix of 4.2m, 4.4m, 4.5m and 4.8m high curtainsiders with specifications and livery tailored to suit TOM’s customers. The vehicle rental company has also ordered several 4.8m tri-axle step-frame curtainsiders from SDC.

The remaining 103 trailers are on SDC’s build sheet for 2016.

Robert Stewart, TOM’s group MD, says its growth and renewal programme will double its hire fleet over the next three years.

“Quality and customer satisfaction are key … as we explore a range of new business avenues, and SDC trailers have always served us well in the past. Their flexibility in the trailer design process is a great advantage to us and our rental customers as we can build the trailer to fulfil specific loading and transport requirements.”

For its part, SDC is reporting that 2015 has been a record year for trailer manufacturing, with 9,400 new trailers built at its facilities in Mansfield and in Northern Ireland.
