Transpak Direct keeps a low profile with fuel-efficient reefers03 April 2017

Fruit distributor Transpak Direct has taken delivery of seven refrigerated trailers from Schmitz Cargobull, designed to reduce drag and improve fuel consumption.

The Schmitz Cargobull trailers are up to 700kg lighter than competitor units and 100mm lower than those built on a full chassis. In addition, the thin insulation panels enable greater internal volume.

The new reefers, built on a semi-chassis design, replace older units in the Faversham-based operator’s 11-strong fleet and are used 24/7 to deliver to food service outlets, supermarket depots and wholesale markets across the UK.

“Schmitz Cargobull trailers have a reputation for excellence for good reason,” says Trevor Bristow, transport manager at Transpak Direct.

“They are robust and high quality so we’re never worried about downtime, and the low profile means they save fuel as well. We couldn’t really ask for more.”

The trailers feature the manufacturer’s Rotos axle unit, to improve vehicle handling and give more braking power, and they come with a 1,000,000km warranty.
