VBG launches Driver Assist - said to be first of many digitised functions31 August 2022

Following the launch of a new generation of VBG couplings which combine refined mechanics and new digital technology, VBG Driver Assist is now coming to the market.

The system, for drawbar trailers, is described as being completely new. Relying on radar technology, it communicates with the driver in the cab. The new software contributes to greater safety for the driver, saves time during coupling, and is said to reduce the risk of unnecessary repair costs.

The system is based on radar technology, through which the truck senses the position of the drawbar and then warns the driver when there is a risk of jackknifing, as well as guides the driver during coupling. Field trials have been underway for more than two years.

In addition, VBG has developed a completely new CAN bus-based electrical infrastructure, together with digital sensors. This is said to provide considerable development potential moving forward. The first step towards digitised functions, which will make the workday simpler and safer for drivers, is now ready for launch through VBG Driver Assist.
