Viridor turns to Mercedes-Benz for recycling trucks 19 February 2015

Mercedes-Benz dealer Rygor has supplied two Actros tractor units to recycling and renewable energy specialist Viridor, to support its West Sussex County Council contract.

Both are 2545 StreamSpace tractors, with the 450bhp) straight-six engine, driving through Mercedes PowerShift 3 AMTs (automated manual transmissions), with hydraulics to power their Legras walking floor trailers.

Gary Elms, Viridor's South-West regional vehicle and plant engineer, who looks after the 300-plus commercial vehicles and plant fleet, says he ordered the new vehicles after trialling one of the dealer's demonstrators for two weeks.

"I know from previous experience that Mercedes-Benz vehicles are reliable and fuel efficient" says Elms.

"With an aspiration to reduce our carbon footprint and become 20% more efficient, fuel economy and lower emission vehicles were an important part of our decision," he continues.

"Also key to the order was the dealer's backup support, service network and customer care – which has been excellent – as well as a comfortable and well equipped cab for our drivers."
