Wordsworth Excavations of Barnsley has expanded its vehicle fleet with 30 new rigid and artic tippers - all of which continue to be fitted with Binotto hydraulics.

Plant manager Craig Lofthouse said: “Our eight wheelers, tractors and trailers are all fitted with Binotto hydraulics and tipping gears. When something is reliable, fully proven and comes with proper backup, we like to standardise on it. That way, we keep things simple - which in this industry is a definite advantage.”

All Wordsworth’s recent vehicles have been Volvos, acquired through Phil Atkinson, area sales manager for Crossroads Commercials of Birstall, Leeds. The 8x4s are 420hp FMXs fitted with Thompsons steel bodies, whilst the latest tractors are larger FHs with 500hp turbo compound engines for heavier 44t work with tipping trailers.

“The trucks today are working harder than ever,” Lofthouse continued “and now we are operating on a more national basis too, with a number of vehicles currently employed on a big project on the south coast. When they are working away from here, reliability and access to speedy backup are key issues, so we place great importance in getting the best truck spec possible when we buy them.”

Wordsworth’s latest rigid tippers have each been fitted with Binotto combined ram and tank TFC145 tipping gears.

For the artics, Wordsworth’s six new FH tractor units were fitted out at Binotto’s own workshop with wet kits to power up the MFC 169 tipping cylinders supplied for a similar number of Wilcox multi-purpose trailers.
