Introduction to the Shell Rotella Starship artic combination17 May 2018
On 18 May, Shell's concept diesel tractor-trailer combination, developed with designer AirFlow, begins a coast-to-coast road trip across the USA.
The vehicle’s aerodynamic features include: a full carbon-fibre cab; active grill shutters, which open and close to adjust air flow; and boat tail.
It also has a hybrid electric axle system, to boost power on uphill gradients; a customised automatic tyre inflation system; and a 5,000W solar array to charge and store power for electrical components.
Its diesel engine uses FA-4 low-viscosity lubricant, covered in a feature in the June issue of Transport Engineer magazine.
The video was published by US transport vlogger LoShawn Parks, whose channel Trucking with LoShawn Parks is available via https://is.gd/fupeda
