Nestlé Logistics begins tyre switch across fleet23 February 2010

Nestlé Logistics has taken its first step towards fitting its fleet of 197 trailers with Michelin's 455/25 R22.5 One MaxiTrailer tyres.

The operator, which runs 16 MAN TGX 6x2 tractor units, has initially specified the tyres for 12 new Montracon tri-axle trailers that are currently entering service.

Its decision to switch tyres was prompted by a year-long trial, during which a Montracon trailer, fitted with the One MaxiTrailer tyres, completed 200,000km and still had another 20,000km available before re-grooving.

As a result, Ralph Defty, Nestlé Logistics vehicle engineering manager, says the company has committed to deploying the Michelin tyres during its ongoing trailer replacement, as well as for existing vehicles in the fleet.

"Our first set of X One MaxiTrailer tyres has performed very well," says Defty. "Their low rolling resistance is also enabling us to benefit from improved fuel efficiencies, while the dimensions of this tyre size guarantee superior road holding and trailer stability."

An additional benefit of the tyres is Michelin's Infinicoil architecture, a 400m-long steel cord that is wrapped continuously around the crown to improve robustness, longevity and wear rates.
