Duncan Adams says Mercedes vehicles deliver the full package24 March 2016

Scottish haulier Duncan Adams has expanded its fleet with eight more Mercedes-Benz vehicles – six Actros tractors and two Antos rigids – meaning 25% of its 110-strong fleet now bears the Mercedes marque.

Supplied by dealer Western Commercial, the Grangemouth-based operator’s latest order comprises five Actros 2545 tractors, one Actros 2443 tractor with small-wheeled mid-lift axle, and two 18-tonne Antos rigids.

The Actros 2545s feature 12.8-litre, 448bhp engines and BigSpace cabs; the Actros 2443, which is hauling bulk powder and liquid tankers, has a StreamSpace cab and a 10.7-litre, 428bhp engine. It has 17.5in wheels on the mid-lift axles to free up space on the chassis for ancillary equipment.

The Antos rigids have 272bhp engines and are assigned to local multi-drop routes for the haulier’s Palletways contract.

Director Eric Adams says the vehicles have great driver appeal and fuel returns are “up there with the best of the rest on our fleet”.

And dealer support, he says, is “first class”: “We have a great relationship with the workshop team at the dealer’s Broxburn facility – they are open round-the-clock and always prepared to do whatever it takes to keep our vehicles moving.”

The vehicles have been supplied on Agility hire purchase from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, with four-year service contracts.

Adams adds: “The Agility finance package is an ideal solution for the transport sector right now, because it gives us the flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions, while the rates are very competitive, too.”
