Electric trucks launched for estates management 13 September 2011

Electric commercial vehicles supplier ePower Trucks launched two new low cost units last week at the grounds man show, IOG Saltex.

The Alke XT320E electric 3.5 tonne LCV, which starts at £35,000, was first shown as a prototype at last year's event and has now moved up to the production model – the main change being lighter, aluminium frame bodies.

The truck is now capable of at least 60 miles in 'fast' mode – longer in 'eco' mode – and the flat bed can carry a 750kg payload. Its lead battery technology – available as a fast-swap battery pack – has been adapted from military vehicle applications and requires zero maintenance.

It is also fully road-legal, and rated to tow loads of up to 1,500kg on the road. Available in two- and four-wheel drive, it has been designed for facilities maintenance, estates management and landscaping.

Meanwhile, the firm's heavy duty eLXD utility truck, from Global Electric Motors, has a roaming range of 50 miles per charge and a top speed of 28mph.

ePower Trucks reckons it costs less than 2p per mile to run and has a 630kg payload. Body configurations available include cargo storage box, flatbed pick-up with drop sides, or 500kg tipper with manual hydraulic pump.

New features include a fold-down stake bed, onboard energy monitoring system and 12in turf tyres.
