Gregory Distribution goes for Michelin high-grip tyres 26 September 2011

Gregory Distribution is adopting a 100% Michelin XDN2 Grip Remix policy across the drive axles of its milk collection fleet.

Francis Doney, transport manager at Gregory Distribution, says the decision follows trials over 18 months, which saw the Davidstow-based firm's tankers increase mobility on hard packed snow and ice, while also achieving longer tyre life.

Last winter Gregory Distribution successfully ran six tankers shod with XDN2 Grip Remix tyres for collections in areas of Cornwall worst-affected by snow.

"Initially we put the XDN2 Grip Remix tyres on a single vehicle," recalls Doney.

"This delivered strong results, so we upped the trial to six tankers last winter," he continues. "The tyres made a difference and we were able to complete the majority of all milk collections throughout winter 2010/2011, despite the heavy snow."

Michelin claims that its XDN2 Grip and XDN2 Grip Remix tyres benefit from a high-grip tread pattern that ensures excellent traction in wet and slippery conditions.

"I am now putting in place a policy to fit these tyres across our milk collection fleet in Davidstow for our Dairy Crest contract," states Doney.
