M6 Keele Services tyre pressure facility closes 21 March 2016

The UK’s first independent, year-long tyre pressure study, situated at Keele Services on the M6, has now concluded – leaving HGV drivers calling for simpler solutions to regular safety checks.

Nearly 50,000 HGV tyre pressures were checked by WheelRight’s drive-over CV tyre pressure monitoring system, which was unveiled at Welcome Break Keele Services in March last year (2015) in association with Highways England.

Over the course of the pilot, WheelRight’s data, collated from thousands of tyre pressure readings, has confirmed that HGV typically run with at least one under-inflated tyre.

Approximately 65% of the HGV drivers surveyed by WheelRight said they had experienced a tyre-related issue while driving on the motorway.

More than 90% of drivers said they would use the WheelRight system once a month to supplement their daily checks, while 95% rated the system nine out of ten for accuracy and ease of use.
