MAN sends platoon prototype to Rotterdam08 April 2016

MAN Truck & Bus has announced that one of its platoon prototypes – consisting of two MAN TGX 18480 semi-trailer tractors – has made its way from Munich to Rotterdam, arriving this week on Wednesday (6 April).

The route was run as part of the European Truck Platooning Challenge 2016, organised by the Dutch government.

Using car-to-car communication (ITS-G5), the two vehicles travel along the motorway as a platoon at speeds above 60 km/h, with a minimum distance of 10 metres between them – the total length of the platoon is 43m.

The longitudinal and lateral control of the following vehicle is also automated.
