Michelin and ATS collaborate in £10m distribution upgrade14 July 2017

Michelin has unveiled a new £10 million European distribution centre (EDC) at its Stoke-on-Trent logistics facility.

The 53,500m² facility will also house a national distribution centre for ATS Euromaster and, combined, the two sites can handle more than five million tyres a year for the UK and Irish markets.

The EDC now has 26 loading bays which can be used around the clock, and Michelin has also installed a state-of-the-art fire protection system.

Michelin’s logistics team has doubled to number 150, and they are now responsible for handling the additional two million tyre movements a year for ATS Euromaster.

Richard Whitehurst, service to customer manager at Michelin Tyre, says: “This is a game-changing development for Michelin; the decision to share facilities with ATS Euromaster brings natural synergies, and focuses around having one logistical team with one shared vision, to support the next steps of both organisations’ growth.”

The new facility has been two years in the planning, and involved new IT systems and interfaces between Michelin and ATS Euromaster.

This is the latest in a string of investments by Michelin in the Campbell Road plant, amounting to £25 million over the past eight years.

The next part of the development is the commissioning of a new 12,000m² warehouse to be built alongside the retread plant, for storing truck and bus tyre casings ahead of processing.
