MSL completes move to all-Mercedes fleet23 June 2016

Scottish haulage firm MSL has taken delivery of three Mercedes-Benz Actros 2454 tractors and, with their arrival, has completed its three-year transition to an all-Mercedes fleet.

The move to 100% Mercedes was driven by vehicle quality, but equally by the service received from the dealer, according to Dave Sharp, director of Broxburn-based MSL.

“We’ve made this move not only because the Actros is extremely fuel-efficient and very popular with our drivers, but also because the back up from our local dealer Western Commercial is second to none,” he confirms.

The three latest additions are all Actros 2545 tractors, powered by 450bhp straight-six engines driving through PowerShift 3 automated transmissions.

Each has a range-topping GigaSpace cabs with luxurious Style-Line interiors, including a fridge and microwave oven. “Our drivers are away three or four nights a week, so cab comfort is very important,” says Sharp.

Fuel efficiency is a bonus, with MSL’s first Actros vehicles recording an average of 9.9 mpg.

Sharp describes the support from Western Commercials as “exceptional”, adding: “The fact that the dealer’s service department is open through the night and at weekends means we can always get our trucks inspected and maintained at times that suit us.”

He adds: “And if we ever miss an inspection appointment, for example because a vehicle is delayed and gets back later than expected, Western will always reschedule with a minimum of fuss. Service like this is invaluable.”
