New FH truck mirrors win Volvo safety award 30 September 2013

The team behind the new Volvo FH exterior rear view mirrors have been recognised with this year's Volvo Group Internal Safety Award.

The judges describe Volvo designeers as displaying "successful cross functional teamwork between product design, cab engineering, visibility specialists and virtual analysis", according to the manufacturer.

Volvo says the mirror housings, upright A-pillars and their location mean reduced blind spots, and a safety improvement compared to both the previous model and current competition.

The front corners of the cab are among the most complex areas of this cab design. Requirements of visibility in the mirrors, cab strength, dirt and vibration resistance and aerodynamics must be fulfilled while minimising blind spots.

Volvo claims the improved direct visibility and the rear view will be appreciated by drivers in all types of transport.
