Workshop Team Leader - Vehicle Management Unit, Lancashire Constabulary HQ - Grade: LC8 19 January 2022

Manage all aspects of the vehicle maintenance and repair facility ensuring that all Lancashire Constabulary vehicles and equipment continually exceed the standards of the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency whilst meeting internal and nationally recommended availability targets.

Manage and have visibility of the day to day demand across the workshop, ensuring vehicles are dealt with in line with agreed SLAs / KPIs.

Have responsibility for the development and line management of Technical staff providing knowledge, guidance and advice in relation to vehicle maintenance and repair.

This is not a comprehensive list of all the tasks which may be required of the post holder. It is illustrative of the general nature and level of responsibility of the work to be undertaken.

  • Manage all aspects of customer liaison to ensure the highest levels of support to front line Policing and other fleet users. This to include taking direct enquiries from all fleet users in order to fully explain vehicle repair and return status
  • Prioritise, issue, and monitor work throughput by direct liaison with all technical staff ensuring appropriate outputs are maintained
  • Apply and constantly maintain a vehicle off road management plan where daily reporting is embedded and communicated to key stakeholders.
  • Undertake weekly team briefings to inform staff of the prioritisation required on tasks, inviting feedback on technical, safety and training matters where appropriate; ensuring senior management key strategic messages are disseminated consistently
  • Support Vehicle Fleet Engineer in carrying out health and safety inspections and reports. Writing and maintaining risk and COSHH assessments and performing pro-active appropriate walk round safety inspections, pre-empting potential Health & Safety issues that could arise. Suitable record keeping of all health and safety related matters
  • Create and monitor short, medium and long-term plans for training and development of staff and compliance with assessment standards to secure operational efficiency.
  • Report on staff training requirements directly to Vehicle Fleet Engineer at least on a monthly basis so that costs and availability can be ascertained
  • Responsible for the maintenance and care of workshop tools and equipment ensuring that hazards / dangers are addressed in the shortest possible time and taking items out of service immediately where deemed unsafe, reporting to Vehicle Fleet Engineer
  • Perform planned or short notice quality checks on completed vehicle servicing / repairs in order to ensure the highest standards are maintained
  • Carry out any other duties and additional responsibilities, which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading of the post

  • To be responsible for improving your performance by participating in the Professional Development Review (PDR) process with your manager
