Bedfords smashes Iveco Ecostralis fuel efficiency record 19 August 2011

West Yorkshire's Bedfords Transport has revealed that two Ecostralis Active Space Super3 tractors have 'smashed' Iveco's 4% fuel saving guarantee.

So impressed is the company that a further 12 6x2 mid-lift tractors have been ordered to join the duo that entered service in June.

Measured against the 80-strong fleet's 8.47mpg tractor average, the first two ultra-efficient Ecostralis units delivered an average of 9.6mpg and 9.98mpg respectively during June and July – equating to an average saving of 15.6%.

Based on 140,000km per year over three years, Steve Hollingsworth, fleet engineer at Bedfords Transport, says this enhanced fuel economy is projected to achieve savings in excess of £20,000 per vehicle, based on a bulk diesel price of £1.15 per litre.

"Iveco guaranteed the Ecostralis would deliver at least a 4% improvement in fuel economy against our fleet average, once the initial 20,000km running-in period was completed. In fact, we've literally smashed that target from the very start," says Hollingsworth.

"What makes this performance particularly impressive is that it's been the holiday period, and we've had different drivers behind the wheel. Now the initial 20,000km running-in period is over, I'm confident the savings will increase further," he adds.

The additional 12 new Ecostralis models are scheduled for delivery at a rate of four vehicles a month during September, October and November.
