DME-fuelled Volvo trucks heading to North America10 June 2013

Within two years, trucks running on DME (dimethyl ether) will be introduced to North America in a Volvo VNL, powered by a D13 engine, according Volvo Truck, which has been leading development of the energy-efficient alternative fuel.

"It's clear that DME technology shows great potential for North America and allows Volvo to further its commitment to both our customers and the environment," states Göran Nyberg, president of Volvo Trucks North American sales and marketing.

"DME is one of the most promising alternatives we have found to today's diesel fuel," adds Lars Mårtensson, director environmental affairs at Volvo Trucks.

"By offering trucks running on DME, we also hope to hasten the expansion of DME production and distribution – essential to establish a presence on other markets too," adds Mårtensson.
