New heavy goods vehicle (HGV) and public service vehicle (PSV) operators can now get support to become compliant by joining the ‘road to DVSA earned recognition’.

The Driver Vehicle Standards Agency’s (DVSA) trial programme is available to new operators which have been issued with a licence in the last six months.

Being on the programme will help them build best practice and compliance in their business, so they can apply for DVSA earned recognition status in the future.

For existing operators, it strengthens the DVSA’s commitment to ensuring there is a level playing field when operators are competing for business. By having closer ties to DVSA, operators who join the programme are more likely to meet its standards and can work towards membership of the earned recognition scheme.

During the two-year programme, the DVSA will work to provide support and guidance to those who join the programme. This will include a structured learning programme and one-to-one contact with the agency.

Head of enforcement relationship management, Laura Great-Rex said: “This is a great way for new HGV and bus operators to work with DVSA and get guidance to help them manage their operating licence compliance.

“We want to encourage social responsibility and we’ll help new operators develop processes to keep their vehicles and drivers safe.

“By joining, new operators will carry out best practice from the start.”
