Fiat Ducato revealed at generation six: new top claims 24 April 2014

The latest evolution of the Fiat Ducato LCV – the sixth generation since the original 1981 LCV and claiming 2.6 million unit sales – has been unveiled by Fiat Professional.

The company says its latest iteration combines sophisticated car-like exterior design with LCV versatility, efficiency and robustness, plus a renewed focus on efficiency and low running costs.

Claims to fame include: the lowest emission and fuel consumption levels in the segment, thanks to its MultiJet II power units; best gross vehicle weight (up to 4.25 tonnes) in the single wheel category; ESC (electronic stability control) complete with rollover mitigation, load and centre of gravity detection (LAC), hill holder and dual-mode Servotronic power steering all standard; and optional Traction+ with hill descent control.

As for driver technology, Generation 6 now includes Bluetooth and MP3 playback, while the new five-inch colour touchscreen can be specified with a reversing camera; satnav and DAB. And there are two interior environments (Classic or Techno) with new seats and an integrated multifunction tablet holder.

The all-new front end features new DRL headlamps, with optional LEDs, and a new grille, available in satin silver or piano black, as well as a three-part front bumper, which helps to reduce repair costs.

A new bonnet, skid plate and new alloy wheels complete the revised exterior style.

As for the power unit, emissions and economy have been improved by around 10% across the Euro 5 engine range. Emissions for the entry-level 2.3 MultiJet II 110bhp are 170g/km with fuel economy at 44.1 mpg on the NEDC cycle.

The 2.3 MultiJet II 130, which produces 130bhp and 320Nm of torque, and the 2.3 litre MultiJet II 150 (150bhp and 350Nm) both return even better economy when equipped with optional Start&Stop – 164g/km and 45.6 mpg.

All models are equipped with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, while the ComfortMatic transmission is available on all but the entry-level 2.3-litre unit.

There are 10,000 variants across the commercial vehicle, passenger transport and conversions chassis range.

For van users, there are: eight load capacities, ranging from 8 to 17 m³; four lengths; and three heights. Five lengths are offered for the chassis cabs.
