Newport refuse collection vehicles fitted with Sentinel camera systems23 June 2017

Sentinel Systems has supplied and installed 360-degree camera systems to 18 of Wastesavers’ kerbside recycling vehicles in Newport.

Sentinel Systems was specified for the installation by vehicle providers Romaquip.

Wastesavers recycling and health and safety manager, Ian Syms, says: “As an award-winning recycling business running in partnership with Newport City Council, we know how important it is for our drivers to have safety equipment as part of their vehicles. Sentinel’s cameras offer a full, 360-degree view of our 12-tonne recycling vehicles which is such a help for our drivers who, as part of our operation, have to drive in congested and small highway areas.”

He adds: “Sentinel’s camera and safety systems have proved very advantageous to our drivers, and the systems have already been beneficial in proving numerous false claims in many of our vehicles. We would definitely consider installing more of Sentinel’s camera systems on further recycling vehicles in the future.”

Sentinel’s 360-degree surround view camera systems offer the complete coverage of vehicles such as large trucks. These can be combined with Sentinel’s 4 or 8-channel DVRs, whereby drivers can record up to 30 days of footage from the surround view cameras ensuring any accidents can be dealt with using the camera footage. Inside the vehicle, a 7 inch in-cab monitor is installed with high image clarity so objects around the vehicle can always be clearly seen by drivers. The cameras not only reduce the risk of damage to the vehicle, but also lower the risks of injury to personnel.
