TNT signs for delivery of Iveco Eurocargos18 February 2014

TNT Express has taken delivery of 69 Iveco Eurocargo trucks –its firs t for many years – and is now evaluating these against other marques for its multi-drop urban distribution operation.

Supplied by dealers Guest Truck & Van and Sherwood Truck & Van, 30 Eurocargo 75E16s 7.5-tonners and 39 low-height 120EL18s 12-tonners have been supplied with box bodies and tail-lifts.

All will operate from TNT sites across the UK.

TNT Express picked the 12-tonne EL model for its improved payload and lower chassis height – 55mm lower than a typical 12-tonne model, making it easier for drivers to get in and out of the cab frequently.

To achieve the lower frame height, the side-members are shallower by 45mm and the frame is carried on 17.5 inch wheels and tyres.

Both models feature an automated EuroTronic transmission as standard, and are powered by 3.9-litre and 5.9-litre EEV-rated FPT Industrial Tector engines.

"These are our first Eurocargos for some time," confirms Simon Harper, director of operations and engineering at TNT Express.

"The current product looks very competitive, so we are using this order as a chance to re-evaluate the Eurocargo's performance against other marques we operate."

The company has 2,250 commercial vehicles on its fleet and 2,000 trailers. It anticipates operating the Iveco trucks for seven years and will maintain them in house.
