Wakefield and District Housing swaps Fords for Citroëns14 October 2010

As part of a four-year fleet replacement programme, Wakefield and District Housing (WDH) is taking delivery of the first of more than 350 Citroën Nemo, Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay LCVs.

Paul Clarke, WDH supplies manager, says the move away from its current Ford LCV fleet is part of the organisation's bid to reduce carbon footprint while increasing fleet efficiency and cutting its size by 15%.

"Citroën LCVs delivered the financial and environmental performance benefits that WDH required," he explains.

And WDH fleet manager Rick Young adds: "Citroën LCVs have some of the cleanest and most fuel efficient engines available, which, together with their low whole life cost, [was a] key consideration in our selection process."

Young also indicates that Citroën's four strong LCV range meant greater operational flexibility, "enabling WDH's trades people to select the vehicle that best matches their working requirements".

WDH will take delivery of some 217 Citroën LCVs in 2010, followed by a further 130 in 2011, around 40 in 2012 and a smaller, unspecified number in 2013.

Supplied by Citroën dealer Springfield Citroën in Gateshead, the vehicles are being operated on Lombard 48 month, 10,000 mile per year, maintenance contract hire agreements.

The Citroën Nemo vans will be used by WDH's supervisors, while Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay LCVs are for the trades. Each van user is asked to pick the LCV that provides optimum space and carrying capacity, and each van is then racked and equipped to meet staff requirements.
