Ingress of dirt into the steering shaft sliding joint will cause the splines to wear prematurely. As the joint wears, play at the steering will become apparent and, over time, the play will increase, leading to some pulsing when the steering wheel is turned, and the vehicle wandering. If all these warning signs are ignored and the vehicle is still used, there will be increased difficulty in maintaining steering control. Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to replace the steering shaft with a modified type.
