ALLISON TRANSMITION
eGen Power, pictured, is a drop-in solution compatible with many existing chassis, helping OEMs to accelerate their vehicle development programmes. It features fully integrated electric motors, a two-speed gearbox, integrated oil cooler and pumps for optimal efficiency and performance. The twin-motor eGen Power 100D version has a continuous output of 454kW and a peak output power of 652kW, said to make it one of the most powerful electric axle solutions on the market.
Allison also offers the eGen Power 130D, a 13-tonne variant of the 100D, specifically designed for the European and Asia-Pacific markets, and the single motor, 10.4-tonne rated eGen Power 100S described as suitable for medium and heavy-duty applications.
CARRIER TRANSICOLD
The new Pulsor eCool and Vector HE 17 systems are said to represent significant steps toward further decarbonising the cold chain. The former, said to be the first unit of its kind for LCVs, operates through a direct connection to the high voltage DC of the main vehicle batteries with no additional converter or battery pack. This design is also developed to communicate in real time with vehicle data to ensure optimal temperature control and battery performance.
Also launching is the Vector HE 17 unit, pictured, featuring variable frequency drive technology on the compressor combined with proven E-Drive all-electric technology. The new system continuously alters the motor speed to match the air demand. It increases efficiency and reduces the risk of refrigerant leaks and fuel consumption. The Vector HE 17 unit will also be available in PIEK (City version) and silent variants.
CONTINENTAL
First, an AI-based solution for calculating the available cargo space in trucks, semi-trailers and trailers is previewed. It provides fleet managers, via smartphone, with precise digital information on how much cargo can still be loaded. With VDO Link, Continental will provide fleet managers with real-time data from the tachograph. The VDO Link concept is said to close the gap between digital tachographs and online platforms for fleet management. It is further described as the first of its kind, allowing tachograph data such as driving times and rest periods to be retrieved via secure mobile connection and processed in real time at a distance.
DAF
A new truck series for distribution and vocational applications is to be shown. The New Generation DAF XD is based on the same platform as the XF, XG and XG+ range. DAF promises the new range will bring premium features – including aerodynamics, powertrains, seating position and fit and finish – into the distribution and vocational segment. Features include a large windscreen and large side windows with ultra-low belt lines. A low cab position adds to optimal direct view, as does an optional kerb view window and digital camera systems. There’s also a new Paccar MX-11 driveline and advanced driver assistance systems. The DAF Connect fleet management system offers time-saving ‘over the air’ software updates. Production starts in autumn 2022.
JACOBS VEHICLE SYSTEMS
Jacobs’ cylinder deactivation technology can turn a six-cylinder engine into a three-cylinder engine or less, decreasing fuel consumption and keeping the aftertreatment system hot. Also on show is Tula Technology Inc’s dynamic skip fire (DSF) technology which, when combined with Jacobs’ CDA, means decisions about which cylinders to deactivate are made on an individual basis, and every engine rotation, to best meet torque demands and eliminate vibration.
MERCEDES-BENZ
The eActros LongHaul battery-electric truck for long-distance transport is to be launched. The manufacturer announced the 40-tonne truck in 2020 and now presents the ‘concept prototype’. The tractor unit is also part of the eActros LongHaul test fleet. The first prototypes are in testing and the eActros LongHaul will be tested on public roads in 2022. Series readiness is planned for 2024. On a single battery charge, the eActros LongHaul will have a range of around 500km. The e-truck will enable high-performance charging – or so-called ‘megawatt charging.’ In addition to the eActros LongHaul, Mercedes-Benz Trucks will present other battery-electric trucks, including the eActros for heavy-duty distribution transport, in series production since October 2021, and the eEconic for municipal use.
ORBCOMM
The talk will be about temperature monitoring solutions, solar-powered dry trailer tracking with cargo camera and tractor/trailer ID sensors, truck telematics with in-cab cameras, and advanced reefer and dry container tracking solutions.
QUANTRON
A world premiere is the Quantron FCEV EU Heavy Truck for heavy-duty and long-distance use with Ballard Power hydrogen fuel cells and integrated e-axle. The FCEV truck will be available from the second quarter of 2023. Range is up to 700km. The FCEV truck will feature a hydrogen tank ‘exceeding 50kg capacity’. Also to be shown is the Quantron QHM BEV 50-392, available as a 4x2 and 6x2. The distribution truck has a range of up to 350km with a high-voltage 392kWh battery and can be charged with power outputs of up to 350kW. The first customers include companies that focus on sustainability and new technologies such as the waste disposal and logistics companies, Ansorge and DORR.
SCHMITZ CARGOBULL
The fully electric box body semi-trailer S.KOe is a refrigerated box body with battery-powered cooling unit and trailer axle with energy recuperation for environmentally friendly freight transport. Transport cooling units by Schmitz Cargobull include the S.CU 2.0 – with its efficient common rail diesel engine and new Performance mode – in MonoTemp and MultiTemp design, as well as the S.CU 1.0, with its Perkins diesel engine in MonoTemp-design, and the .CUe. Its electric Cooling Unit does not generate any emissions and is designed especially for use in urban transport. The S.KO CITY box body semi-trailer for food distribution features a twin-axle, force-steered body, with the electric cooling unit S.CU and TrailerConnect telematics system fitted as standard. Digital services offered include ‘proactive monitoring’ through TrailerConnect trailer telematics.
