Headquartered in Cheddleton with additional sites in Willand, and Brassington, Advanced Proteins is one of the UK’s largest providers of animal by-product collection solutions.
Its fleet comprises more than 50 HGVs, 212 trailers and a small number of light commercial vehicles. It adopted AssetGo’s fleet and driver compliance management system in 2021, initially to manage daily vehicle checks and service schedules.
“We brought it in to digitise our daily walkaround checks and make them more efficient,” explained transport training and data manager, Adrian Spencer-Hicks. “We can now verify that drivers are completing their checks correctly and even see how long they’ve spent on each check. If, for example, it’s less than 10 minutes, then we know it hasn’t been done properly.”
“We also use it to keep on top of our scheduled PMI checks, MOT dates, LOLER inspections and tachograph calibration dates – which is a bit of a task with a fleet the size of ours, but the level of visibility is great. We can see exactly what’s going on with the trucks and trailers all the time, making sure that we are compliant at all times.”
AssetGo’s software specialises in the fundamental aspects of fleet management compliance and distils them into simple, everyday checks for drivers, the results of which are highly visible to fleet operators and easily manageable.
The system addresses our core fleet activities, such as daily walkaround checks, cost, accident reporting, offsite fuel tracking, servicing, managing vehicle defects and licence checking.
The success of AssetGo’s road vehicle management led Advanced Proteins to expand its use to plant machinery and other site-based assets, such as JCB loaders, forklifts, and even small electric pump trucks. One of the major advantages of this expansion is the software’s ability to prevent operations from proceeding if a critical defect is logged.
“We initially rolled it out for our HGVs and trailers, but its effectiveness prompted us to extend it to all our plant assets,” added Spencer-Hicks. “Now, the majority of our plant machinery is logged in the system, and operators are required to complete digital checks just as they are our roadgoing vehicles.”
Beyond the software itself, the support provided by AssetGo has been instrumental in ensuring a smooth transition and continued success for Advanced Proteins, as Spencer-Hicks explained: "The team at AssetGo is always quick to respond and ready to help. Their willingness to adapt the system to meet our specific needs makes a huge difference.”
