The government has announced that all electric vans registered before 1 March 2015 will now require an MOT.
Vehicle funding and fleet management business Arval has welcomed the news, saying this closes a “loophole” in the previous legislation.
The company had argued that the lack of MOT for electric vans could cause problems with fleet maintenance structures, particularly as the number of plug-in vehicles increases.
“Our view is that pressure to reduce city centre emissions will mean that adoption of electric vans by certain fleets could be quite rapid and we are very much behind this trend,” said Eddie Parker (pictured), Arval’s fleet commercial vehicle consultant.
Arval will be launching a new guide at the Commercial Vehicle Show later this month (24-26 April; NEC, Birmingham). Called ‘Delivering the future: A guide to operating electric vans’, the publication provides operational guidance for fleets that are starting to operate electric vans.
