Asda begins introducing Tiger Trailers moving decks

Asda is midway through welcoming to its fleet an initial order of 167 new vehicles manufactured by Tiger Trailers.

The order comprises 147 tri-axle box van moving deck double decks for UK operation, and 20 for its Northern Ireland ferry-use operations.

Tiger’s new trailer solution for Asda is said to provide up to a 44-pallet carrying capacity, and incorporates a ¾ length moving deck for versatility, powered by the Cheshire manufacturer’s in-house, 4-ram hydraulic system.

Asda’s new double deck trailers have been designed to transport cages and UK pallets. To maintain safety, 16 warning and information labels have been fitted to its trailers. A ferry trestle support is built into the neck area for Asda’s RoRo operations and a roll stability programme enhances cargo integrity. The controls for the moving deck are positioned to enable operation from both ground level and from store loading bays.

A proportion of the new trailers can already be seen in service on the road, primarily operating from the supermarket’s ambient distribution centres that are situated throughout the UK, along with its Irish Sea Carriers routes.
