Axtec weighs in with new DAF XF test vehicle

Tractor Units
Axtec has taken delivery of a new DAF XF tractor for its weighbridge testing work around the UK.

Supplied by dealer Lancashire DAF, the XF 480 4x2 replaces another DAF unit. The new addition has a Super Space Cab and is hooked to a bespoke stepframe trailer, refurbished by Truck Services Sandbach.

The truck and trailer – said to be the only one of its type in the UK – is used to calibrate and check the accuracy of new or existing dynamic weighbridges and to ensure that equipment is performing to required standards.

A new, all-steel suspension trailer is due for delivery this month and will replace the refurbished stepframe trailer. An all-steel set-up is essential as air suspension can mask a false adjustment in a dynamic weighbridge, so a test vehicle must have steel suspension on all bogie axles.

“Our new test vehicle provides us with a reliable, flexible and highly accurate method of testing and calibration – anywhere in the country,” says Keith Gresham, Axtec’s managing director.

Axtec has provided a weighbridge test vehicle since 1997 and is contracted by the DVSA to maintain its 55 roadside enforcement weighbridges around the UK.
