Transit buses powered by BAE Systems' HybriDrive green propulsion have now surpassed the 200 million miles mark – across a fleet of more than 3,000 buses in North America and Europe.
The UK and France are the latest to see deliveries, with more than 100 series-technology HybriDrive-powered buses entering service by year end.
BAE Systems claims that its power plants have prevented more than 100,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, and suggests that fuel consumption reductions of up to 40% have been achieved, compared with diesel – far exceeding expectations.
"We are proud that our HybriDrive propulsion system has reached this historic milestone, demonstrating fuel savings and reliability in some of the most demanding transit bus markets in the world," comments Rob Lindsay, director of BAE Systems Transit Systems for Europe and Asia.
"With significant numbers of HybriDrive-powered buses now delivered and operating in the UK, and the North American fleet continuing to grow, we look forward to quickly reaching the milestone of 500 million miles of green and clean revenue service," he adds.
Buses powered by HybriDrive now include Daimler and New Flyer in the US, and Alexander Dennis and Irisbus Iveco in Europe.
