Privately owned boiler services firm B&K Boiler Services is reporting halved fuel costs, improved customer service and a tenfold payback on tis Fleetmatics GPS fleet management system.
The Blackwater, Surrey-based firm, which employs 10 registered Gas Safe fitters, each with vans, was having to ask its technicians to phone in to check schedules before moving on to each job.
"The sheer volume of calls meant we had to consider hiring an additional admin person," explains B&K's Mr Worthington.
Since fitting the FleetMatics GPS fleet tracking system, Worthington says job scheduling has become more efficient, and that he can better manage his fitters. "Previously, the average number of jobs completed by a fitter was between eight and nine a day. Now, it's now nine to 10. The FleetMatics GPS system has paid for itself 10 times over," says Worthington.
"Also, if we get an emergency job, we can locate the nearest fitter and assign the job accordingly. And the beauty is we can tell the customer precisely when we will be there."
The 'Live Fleet' tool monitors where all vehicles are in real-time, indicating whether a fitter is en route to the next job. If they are still on a job, office staff can work out how long it will take to complete before moving onto the next.
Further, Worthington says that, because his vehicles are being monitored, drivers have become more punctual and relationships within the company have improved.
"We don't have to keep phoning up and disturbing our fitters during a job to find out where they are and, by using the Live Traffic alerts, we can advise them when to use an alternative route to avoid traffic jams," he says.
