Blakemore Logistics cleans up with hybrid refrigeration

Blakemore Logistics has introduced hybrid refrigeration units to 13 of its trailers to cut vehicle emissions by 90%, working with trailer manufacturer Gray & Adams on the trailer design.

The Willenhall-based operator, a division of AF Blakemore & Son, has specified Thermo King’s SLXi hybrid refrigeration units, which offer the benefits of both diesel and electric operation.

Gray & Adams has installed BlueSeal air curtains, designed to improve temperature regulation during unloading, so reducing food wastage.

The SLXi Hybrid combines technologies from Thermo King and Frigoblock, and can operate in zero-emission electric mode for deliveries in low-emission urban areas. The standard connectivity and geo-location feature automatically switches the power between the diesel and electric mode as required.

“The hybrid trailer units cut emissions by over 90% and will enable us to deliver into restricted emission zones with ease,” confirms Dave Higgs, compliance manager at Blakemore Logistics.

“In addition, lower engine operating hours will mean less frequent maintenance, providing further cost savings and extending the life of the trailer units.”
