BPW launches trailer tyre pressure control system

BPW is launching a trailer tyre pressure control system, called AirSave, which it says will pay for itself in the first year thanks to time and tyre savings, and fuel efficiency.

AirSave is based on an existing system, by Celerity CRS, with bespoke features added by BPW’s engineers. The system uses the existing trailer pneumatics and, with a fully automatic booster pump, ensures that the preset tyre pressure is maintained at all times. Air is guided through the axle beam to the wheel end and, from there, to the tyre valve.

AirSave kicks in at a pressure deviation of 0.2bar. BPW predicts it will save 700 euros for a three-axle vehicle covering 120,000km a year and with an average pressure deviation of 10%. This saving increases to almost 1,000 euros when the vehicle covers 200,000km a year.

The system has already been trialled by transport operators, one of which is Alfred Weyres Spedition. “The purchase pays for itself astonishingly quickly,” confirms Alfred Weyres, owner and managing director of the German freight forwarding company.

“The system ensures a permanently optimised roll resistance; fuel economy is clear – and added is the considerably longer tyre mileage,” he says, adding that the system also optimised retreadability.

BPW says there is also the option of digital connection, with readings delivered to a smartphone app.
